What software records do you need?

Records that show how software got built and maintained: code repositories, pull requests and code reviews, bug reports and tickets, test and CI history, release notes and architecture docs. You don't need all of them. One well-documented dataset can qualify. The usual bar is 30+ employees, 3+ years of records and a US base, with records in real systems such as Git, issue trackers and Slack.

Do we give up ownership of our code or IP?

No. You license a copy. Your original repositories and records stay in your systems, untouched, and you keep ownership. Before anything is exported, you approve the exact systems and date ranges in writing, and you can leave out any repo, inbox, tool or period. Nothing leaves until you sign.

How are client, customer and developer details handled?

Records are de-identified before delivery. Every person, client, company name, address and account number in the agreed copy is replaced with a placeholder or removed. That includes developer names and customer names wherever they appear in the agreed copy. Highly sensitive fields, such as payment details and Social Security numbers, are removed entirely.

How much work is this for our team?

Usually a few hours from whoever administers your Git hosting, issue tracker and Slack. There's no cost to you, and you're never invoiced. The buyer pays Renaissance Data Lab a finder's fee when a deal closes. It doesn't come out of your offer and is disclosed in writing before you sign. Typically, it takes about 60 to 90 days from first call to payment.

We build software for clients. Can we include their projects?

That depends on your contracts and obligations, and we don't give legal advice. Check with your own counsel. Client-owned code may need the client's permission, and the scope review covers who owns what. The buyer's legal team reviews scope with you before any export, and any client project can be excluded.

Does the eligibility check commit us to anything?

No. The check is free, takes about a minute and creates no obligation. If you qualify, the final offer comes in writing after a review of your actual systems and data volume. Nothing leaves your systems until you sign.
